About our Primary IB Programme

The Primary IB Programme at CIS provides a unique learning environment with a central philosophy of learning through play. It is a transdisciplinary programme designed to go beyond siloed subjects and ways of thinking.

Subjects are taught holistically at CIS through themed Units of Inquiry. This teaching method encourages our students to think critically and creatively about new knowledge, promoting more confident, curious minds. Students move away from finding the “correct” answer and towards making sense of a changing world through collaboration and connection making.

The PYP is designed for students aged 2 years 10 months-12 years of age. It focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and the world outside. It combines play, exploration, the learning environment and social relationships to contribute to well-rounded, confident and inquisitive students.

About our Middle Years IB Programme

The Middle Years Programme (MYP), for learners in Grades 6 – 10, emphasises intellectual challenge, encouraging students to make connections between their studies across subjects to the real world, and to become critical and reflective thinkers.

The MYP also fosters the developments of skills for communication, intercultural understanding and global awareness, qualities that are essential for life.

The MYP is a philosophical framework around which teachers plan the curriculum for our learners. We use the MYP objectives and criteria to measure and assess student learning, which is underpinned by a robust curriculum crafted by our teachers.

Inherent to the MYP is development of skills that students need to be successful learners both within and beyond the classroom. These skills transcend all IB programmes, and focus on the areas of communication skills, research skills, self-management skills, social skills and thinking skills.

About our IB DP

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme is a rigorous pre-university course of studies, leading to examinations, which meets the needs of highly motivated secondary students between the ages of 16 and 19 years. Designed as a comprehensive two-year curriculum that allows its graduates to fulfill requirements of various national education systems, the Diploma model is based on the pattern of no single country, but incorporates the best elements of several.

To complete the full Diploma Programme, students are required to take six subjects (three at Higher Level, three at Standard Level). These subjects must contain two languages, at least one of which must be the student’s best language, a Humanities, Maths and a Science. The sixth subject may be another language, another science, another humanities, or, preferably, an Arts subject.
